Michelangelo designed Villa San Michele as a 15th-century Franciscan monastery on Fiesole Hill above Florence. The "Last Supper" fresco survives in what is now the Cenacolo Bar, under the diligent care of its present owners, Orient-Express Hotels. Hidden in this privileged sanctuary, guests find themselves surrounded by park and woods, terraced gardens and pool, loggia and spacious rooms; but it's just minutes to the wealth that awaits in Florentine art museums, galleries and historic sites in the city below.

Here, guests are mere steps from Retiro Park, Teatro de la Zarzuela and the three most prestigious museums in the city: The Prado, The Thyssen Bornemisza and the Centro de Arte Monderno Reina Sofia. Each of the 137 bedrooms and 30 suites have been individually designed and feature embroidered linen sheets, hand-woven carpets, marble bathrooms and modern amenities. The rooms and suites offer superb views of the lagoon to the south, the Palladian San Giorgio Maggiore to the east or the walled gardens and vineyards to the west. The Cipriani's gardens contain the only swimming pool (Olympic-size, saltwater and heated) and tennis court in the center of Venice.
